MAKNA KATA ELEUTHEROS (MERDEKA) DALAM SURAT GALATIA, STUDI EKSEGESIS
Abstract
Ideal conditions are needed for a person to be able to grow and work well, this is the dream of every believer. In commonly used everyday language, the ideal condition is often termed "a person who is free" or "independent". Paul's letter to the Galatians is a letter of faith and spiritual formation containing a very firm and harsh warning regarding living freely in Christ. The aim and purpose of his letter was to sensitize the Galatians who were influenced by heretical teachings which held that salvation was not enough just by the work of Christ Jesus on the cross, but also had to be circumcised as was the Jewish tradition. There were at least 3 (three) main things that Paul wanted to answer and straighten out regarding his relationship as a spiritual guide, and this became a problem (polemic) in the Galatian congregation, including: (1) regarding Paul's polemic as an Apostle; (2) regarding the polemic about circumcision (the laws) being a requirement as a new Christian; (3) regarding the polemic of salvation in Jesus, they view that the work of Christ is not enough to bring salvation and must be supplemented with human effort.
The aim of the research is to find the original meaning of the word "freedom" according to Galatians 5:1-15 by using descriptive exegetical methods and answering various questions regarding freedom for believers only in Christ Jesus.
